Welcome to the Kent ISD's Literacy Coaches Network Wiki!

So  what is the Literacy Coaches Network and who is part of this network?  The Literacy Coaches Network is a group of Pre-K-12 educators whom we refer to as literacy coaches and/or literacy leaders, who meet regularly to learn and share best practices around literacy.  This group includes:  classroom teachers, department chairs, reading teachers, Title 1 teachers, pre-school teachers, coaches (full and part time), literacy leaders in all content areas, English language learner teachers, special education teachers, and anyone interested in networking with others to share and learn.  2009/2010 will be the fourth year of the network and we are expecting to have over 150 literacy coaches/leaders from Kent County participate in either our continuing group or beginning group.

This wiki is designed to push many of us "Digital Immigrants" into the age of technology.  Primarily we will use this wiki as a vehicle to inform, share, and connect with participants in the LCN, as well as other teacher leaders or literacy coaches who are not part of the network, yet. Primarily this wiki will be used to post information and handouts from the monthly Literacy Conversations and books studied in the Literacy Coaches Network.  The wiki will have interactive opportunities around book studies, Literacy Conversations, and calls for help.

So as we work to develop our technology literacy - try some of the links and hopefully you will find something to support the literacy development of your students, staff, or self!! Keep coming back, as we will add new links, handouts, and new learnings.

Getting Ready for Read Across America - A Seuss Extravaganza

Dr. Seuss' birthday is March 2. Whether you teach ABCs or calculus, TeachersFirst has a handy collection of Seuss resources ready to go for your classroom. Start planning activities now to culminate on March 2.

Challenge your students to write (and illustrate?) study guides for your current unit in Seuss-prose, then "read across your classroom" in a review day for your next test. Collaboratively write the tale of the Cat in the Hat's "coming back" to your classroom and what he would learn there.  Immortalize these content-based masterpieces as online books using Tikatok (reviewed here), then share them across America by emailing the links to family, colleagues, and friends. No student (or teacher) is too old for Seuss!

http://www.Tikatok.com is great web application, kids would love creating a book with their own illustrations here (and parents can purchase them)!
